Spectators traveled from all over to greet the Volvo Ocean Racers in Newport, RI last week. This is the second time Volvo Ocean Race has come to Newport thanks to Sailing Newport. The amazing landscape and views from Fort Adams made the perfect location for the Village which featured vendor booths, food, and beer gardens where you could definitely tell “Newport is a Sailing Town With A Drinking Problem”.

Spectators had the opportunity to watch the boat race on the water with one in-port race on Saturday where Team Brunel came up with the win. The weather wasn’t very cooperative, but the rain didn’t seem to stop anyone from coming out to support the sailors and have a great time. The crowd was well prepared and full of yellow hoods from everyone wearing foul weather gear.

The send-off took place on Sunday, which started out quite foggy, but luckily the fog lifted in perfect timing just before the boats left Newport harbor to make their way to Cardiff!

We’d love to see your photos from the event! Upload them to Instagram or Facebook and be sure to tag @sailinghubb!
